Orgo Synthesis Reactions
« on: May 18, 2010, 08:52:25 PM »
So the question is:

Show how to syntehsize each of the following:

a) 2-bromopropane from 1-bromopropane
b) 1,2-dibromopropane from 2-propanol
c) 1,2-dihydroxybutane from 1-bromobutane
d) 1,1-diiodo-2-choloro-2-bromo-pentane from acetylene
e) 1-bromo-2-propanol from 1-propanol

The only one I half-way understand is b) and I'd like to see if my thinking is correct:

1-bromopropane --heat--H+(acid)--> CH2=CH-CH3 --Br2--CCL4--> 2 bromopropane

I know it looks a little confusing but thats the best I can do...the "=" represents a double bond. The --with--words--in--them-- are part of the arrow and reaction used to get to the next step.

Please let me know if I'm close...and if you could help with the others I would appreciate it!! Thank you  :)
