Let's say N2+3H2 ::equil:: 2NH3 . Here if we just add 1 mol of Argon gas, it is known that it will not affect the equilibrium. However, if the whole gases are in a closed container, couldn't the addition of the argon gas affect the equilibrium since it will change the total pressure?

No, adding argon would not have an effect despite total pressure increasing. This is because the partial pressures of N2 and H2 remain the same.

However, if you also increase the volume with the addition of argon then this will have an effect on the equilibrium.
