intelligent molecules
« on: June 09, 2010, 11:49:16 AM »
hi all
I'm a PhD student I like to work on intelligent molecules for my thesis I like to know which instrument I need for working on this subject  ::) for example the NMR resolution, X-RAY and...
and also I would be grateful if anyone tell me who are pioneer on this subject  :o and is there any possibility for me to couple my thesis with them from my university?
every help will be appreciated

Argh, I hate the term intelligent molecules (pet hate of mine, up there with sticking 'nano' in front of everything). I am assuming you mean responsive.

I work in polymers, and some of my colleagues work on responsive polymers using fluorescence and UV. A fluorophore and quencher are added during the polymerisation, and changes in the chain structure can be identified as the fluorophore and quencher move closer together or further apart on exposure to a stimulus. Still on polymers: agents can be trapped within a network, and then with e.g an increase in pH the agent is released which can be measured and used to infer changes in the network structure.

Classify it as nanointelligence.

really I'm not sure it is  in the nano material field or polymers but I have heard that for example Calixarenes are one of these molecules which can be used for drug delivery
