How can you test that it's acidic, without using indicators?

If by indicators you mean specific indicators to test a compound for acidity or basicity.You can refrain it by Benzoic acid's reaction with acid and bases. As normally acid will react with base with it's affinity to give salt and water; And remains unreacted with acid + acid reaction.

By indicators I assume you mean phenolphthalein, methyl orange, etc. The best way to test for the acidity of a benzoic acid is to react it with a base like NaOH, which will spawn sodium benzoate via a neutralization reaction.

Simple: react it with sodium hydrogen carbonate solution, if you get CO2 formed then the compound is acidic!
