Good questions.

Why is stainless steel eroded in alum water? In order to make alum water, there needs to be enough aluminum and more importantly, sulphate (some in the form of sulphuric acid). Not all stainless steels are the same. Sulphuric acid is fairly corrosive to stainless steel.
