Hi, I am currently studying for an exam and I am having big trouble with answering some of the following questions.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Q The measurement of the concentration of phosphate in water is now regarded as being of high priority by a number of regulatory agencies. In order to monitor the concentration of phosphate, large scale testing is required. one approach to this problem is to use a microfluidic phosphate sensor.
(i) Outline why the determination of phosphate levels is important.
This question is ok, I have just mentioned the oxygen depletion and growth of algae caused by elevated phosphate levels.
(ii) Describe the conventional method of phosphate analysis.
I know that this question is referring to the "Molybdenum blue"methid but I have no idea how to describe the method or to break it into steps.
(iii)Describe the fabrication of a micro-fluidic sensor.
Again I have no idea how to word this.My lecture notes just contain pictures of the chip.
(iv) What changes are incorporated in the new system for the detection of phosphate.
(v) Describe the advantages and disadvantages of micro-fluidic systems and of this system in particular. How does it compare with a flow injection analysis method?
My lecture notes for this question are not particularly helpful and I also have had no luck looking in my general chemistry and analytical chemistry books.I would appreciate any help anyone could give me, Even if its just a link or referral to somewhere on the web that contains info on these. Thanks
