Melted aluminum removal on glass electric stove
« on: September 04, 2010, 11:38:28 AM »
I need help with a very frustrating subject. A friend and I were lighting hooka coals on a stove top (thats how the package said to do it) and we put a piece of aluminum between the stove and the coal. A few minutes of heating, and the aluminum became practically fused to the glass stove top. We've tried everything, scraping, re-heating and a number of house-hold chemicals with no luck.

We've decided to try using a form of acid to try and remove the aluminum. So far what I've read, un-diluted Muriatic Acid will have the least negative effect on the glass. I cannot find any information on what acids can break down aluminum, all I have read is about aluminum etching with acids.

If anyone on here can provide any help at all I would be very greatful. And I apologize if I have posted in the wrong forum.

Obviously not.

Aluminum can be dissolved in alkalies but they can etch the glass as well.
