Bromide and bromine
« on: September 18, 2010, 10:48:37 PM »
1. How many valence electrons does bromide have? As it is bromide ion with -1 charge, I would think it has 8 electrons. Is this correct?
2. How many valence electrons did Mendeleev predict for bromine? I would think he correctly predicted 7 valence electrons. Or is there a different version?

Thank you very much

Bromide has a full valence shell (8 total valence electrons in the 4s and 4p orbital). Don't know the history involving Mendeleev.
