how to hydroxylate propene ,i prepared  alphasubstituted  propene with isovaleric acid & now i want to hydroxylate propene to prepare diol
which reagent should i use for this??

OsO4 (expensive but effective) or KMnO4 (cheap but less effective).

catalytic OsO4 and stoichiometric NMO.  cheaper and effective
