Calculation of number of purgings of nitrogen
« on: October 15, 2010, 12:45:09 AM »
Dear All,
Please suggest me, how to calculate the number of purging of nitrogen(215 deg C , 6 bar (g))required to remove the oxygen present in 2 m3 volume vessel. After one purging the vessel vented to condenser and then again purged with nitrogen... in that way how many purging required to remove oxygen?

THANKS IN ADVANCE

Hello sns,

Unfortunately, it depends. Some of the factors that are involved in purging are: 1) purging rate, 2) purging velocity, 3) purging pressure, 4) initial concentration of oxygen, 5) final concentration of oxygen, 6) concentration of nitrogen, 7) temperatures (both injection and removal), 8) condensor type, 9) reversible chemical reactions (which may generate oxygen), 10) saturations, 11) and more.

My suggestion would be to perform a test and try it out. Learn from the trial and fine-tune the purging to the customers requirements.

I hope this helps,

Eugene
