Br2/MeOH solvent
« on: October 17, 2010, 04:56:39 PM »
Can anyone tell me what is the purpose of this solvent? Actually this is for a reaction scheme where a chlorine in a haloalkane, is substituted with an OH group using a catalyst.

The reaction sequence is as follows.
Pd(PPh3)4 - catalyst then I add CO then Br2/MeOH and finally reduce this with LiAlH4. I dont know what is the purpose of Br2/MeOH
