Topic: A Quench Calibration curve. Need help with some calculations. Kind of urgent!  (Read 3297 times)

So i have to do a quench calibration curve.

0.32ml of H-hexadecane ( specific radioactivity 1.5x 107 d.p.m/g, specific gravity, P20, = 0.664g/ml) was added to 250 ml with toluene at 20o. 1.0 ml of standard toluene solution was added to 4 ml of scintillant in each vials 1-12, together with progressively increasing amounts water, which quenches the counting process.

I have to plot ESR ( external standard ratio) against the efficiency of counting (%) for this scintillation counting system.

I have my values of ESR and Cpm in my table and i know that i need to use % = (Cpm X 100) / dmp. But i'm having trouble with the dilution factor and i don't know why specific gravity is given. Don't i just assume that if 0.32 ml of H-hexadecane is 1.5x 107 d.p.m/g then by taking 1 ml of the standard solution  i get 4.68 x 10 7 or do i need to use the specific gravity to get a from dmp/g to dmp.

Please read my first post. If Any further information is needed i can provide. But i feel what i have posted is enough to point me in the right direction..
