Creating Something Similar To Paintball Shell. Completely lost
« on: November 30, 2010, 01:23:30 AM »
Hey everyone, this is my first post, Im just looking for a little bit of guidance.

Im trying to create somethinglike a paintball shell that is strong enough to hold a liquid inside "paint" but wil completely break down  to absolutely nothing if broken open or slightly heated.

Problem is I dont really know where to start.

I know it takes gelatin and glycerin among other ingredients to create paintball shells, I am not creating shells for paintball this is my own little project and has nothing to do with paintball.

The final product would actually be much more like a bath ball then anything, bath balls dissolve quickly in water.

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Dylan

Since you want dissolution in water, I would look for something in the food area---maybe cornstarch or icing (frosting)--as a starting point, with some low level of gelatin or egg-white as a binder (will egg-white dissolve ???)

Poly(ethylene)glycols (PEGS) have mol. Wts. in range from liquids to solids and might also be suitable as binders.

Run these thoughts past your girlfriend/mother/chem. teacher for advice, and post back if you find something that works.

Good Luck.
