help with naming an amino acid diamide
« on: November 29, 2010, 11:33:02 PM »
Hello,

I am not a chemist by training but I have to do some simple reactions for my research. I'd appreciate if someone can help me with correct naming of a  diamide lipid that I recently made from L-Glutamic acid and two molecules of long chain fatty amine with 16:0 chain length. The fatty amines were linked to the amino acid through its alpha and delta carboxyl groups as amide bonds. It's alpha-NH2 was untouched. This compound is not new, but in the literature it was not formally named.  I tentatively name it as L-Glutamyl dipalmitylamide or L-Glutamyl dihexadecylamide. Could anyone tell me if this sounds alright, or it is too informal?

Comments are welcome!

I thank you ahead for your *delete me*

Cheers,
Steve

(2S)-2-amino-N1,N5-dihexadecylpentanediamide
(2S)-2-amino-N-hexadecyl-N'-hexadecylpentane-1,5-diamide
