Chemistry problem, please help
« on: February 02, 2011, 11:50:25 PM »
The U.S. emits 6.4 x 10^10 g SO2(g) per day.
If all of it is converted to H2SO4(aq) and rains over Ontario, calculate the pH of the rain.

I dont need the answer, I`m looking for a fairly detailed way to get it.
please help
thanks

you need the volume of the rain to be able to calculate a pH, as you need the concentration of the sulfuric acid...

First of all SO2 can combine with H2O to form either H2SO3 or H2SO4

So you will have to find the amount of SO2 that reacts to form H2SO4 and then carry on from there!
