What happens when nitrogen gas mixes with chlorine gas
« on: March 06, 2011, 09:15:12 PM »
Say I have two bulbs where one is filled with chlroine the other is filled with nitrogen. The bulbs are connected but blocked by a stopcock. What happens when the stockcock is opened?
Would the nitrogen gas fuse with chlorine to make nitrogen chloride?

Under normal circumstaces nothing will happen. It is the same like oxygen and nitrogen in our air. You need some energy like UV or electrical sparks to get reaction.
