Analytical chemistry questions about saccharides
« on: March 20, 2011, 07:01:24 PM »
One way to determine the nature of saccharide building blocks is to first hydrolyze a poly-(or oligo) saccharide under acidic conditions followed by treatment with sodium borodeuteride. This sequence gives rise to what is called alditol acetate, which is volatile and can be analyzed by GC-MS. Why sodium borodeuteride is used instead of sodium borohydride?
