Question about enthalpy and some other stuff
« on: March 24, 2011, 07:29:51 PM »
You bought a bottle of liquefied petroleum gas and because you are interested in chemistry as you study the label and see that it contains propane.

a. Write the reaction formula for the complete combustion of one mole of propane in the presence of oxygen.
b. Calculate the enthalpy change.
c. Is the reaction exothermic or endothermic?
d. How large will the enthalpy change if you burn 1000g propane?

a) C3H8+5O2 => 3CO2+4H2O
b) ?
c) ?
d) ?

Thanks!  ;)

For b, I think you should use the heat of formation.
