Heat of reaction
« on: March 24, 2011, 10:06:32 AM »
Heat of solution:

For the dissolution of 5 grams of potassium thiocyanate in 51mL of water, with a temperature change of -4.7 degrees.
For this equation i got -1101.492 J.

How do i calculate the heat of reaction per gram (J/g) of potassium thiocyanate? Would it be the heat of solution divided by 5?

Heat of solution, not reaction!

and yes as to simply divide the total energy change by the number of grams to obtain J/g
