IPA with AIR cleaning
« on: April 11, 2011, 12:57:57 PM »
Hello All.
I am looking for some recommendation.

I want to use IPA (isopropylalcohol) with air blow for non contact terminal cleaning instead cleaning with IPA and cloth - type Savina minimax.
But I read on wikipedia that combination IPA and air is very explosive.

Do anybody have solution how to use method above with elimnation of possible explosion.

Please post which equiment can be allowed for this application (safety first).
Or send me any reccomendations.
Any information should be useful.
Thanks in advance.

Why not use nitrogen as the propellant?
Development Chemists do it on Scale, Research Chemists just do it!

Not sure what you are after. If IPA mixed with oxygen (from air) is to dangerous, and you can not use nitrogen, I am not sure how you plan on using IPA?
Are you looking for a different chemical?

This really sounds like more of an engineering problem than a chemistry problem.

When I, as a chemist, want to prevent something from combusting my first instinct is to inert the system by flushing with nitrogen or another inert gas. If you can't use nitrogen, maybe argon?

Alternatively, you might try a non-flammable solvent such as dichloromethane or chloroform. I have no idea how you would deliver them as a gas to contacts though.

If you can't use anything other than isopropanol and you can't use inert gas, I don't know if I can help you.
