Gravimetric methods of analysis problem
« on: July 23, 2011, 06:33:08 AM »
What mass of AgI can be produced from a 0.512g sample that assays 20.1% ALI3?

I'm confused!
i just find the answer in the web..HERE IT IS..

20.1% ALI3 = 20.1g ALI3 / 100g sample (should be written as AlI3, but it's hard to tell what I mean)

(0.512 g sample) (20.1 g ALI3/100 g sample)(1 mol ALI3 / 407.695 g ALI3)(3 mol I /1 mol ALI3)(1 mol AgI / 1 mol I)( 234.773 g AgI / 1 mol AgI) = 0.177787 g

Answer: 0.177787 g AgI

---BUT, the answer in our book is 0.778g AgI
Why? what's wrong in that process..
KINDLY HELP ME!
THANK YOU! ???

The book is wrong. The thing you found on the internet is correct.
