Hi,

Am I correct in saying that when a reaction has a large rate constant, it has the smallest hill leading from REACTANTS to TRANSITION STATE?  The reason I ask is because my solutions manual says that a large rate constant is the smallest hill leading from the PRODUCT to TRANSITION STATE, which doesn't make sense unless you were referring to the rate constant of the reverse reaction.  Thanks.

You are correct.  This observation can also be made by looking at the Arrhenius Equation.
