Determining an error free end of reaction
« on: June 26, 2011, 08:36:23 AM »
Hi,

We have to do a prac to determine  how the rate of a reaction changes with a change in the temperature of the reactants. The reaction was between thiosulfate and hcl. The problem is, we have to find a better way to determing the end of the reaction... we just looked at the beaker and placed a paper with an X drawn on it under the beaker and when we couldn't see the X on the paper through the beaker, we stopped the timer, as we knew all the products had been formed. Is there a more accurate and precise way of measuring the end of the reaction? I thought of using a pH meter but i don't know how i would use it. Any suggestions how i could use a pH meter to determine the end of this reaction?

Thanks
