limiting Reagent problem
« on: September 25, 2011, 08:28:35 PM »
i have 100mg of trans 1,2 dibenzoylethylene, molecular weight is 236. then added 4ml of methylene chloride and 6ml of ethanol...
how do i calculate what the limiting reagent is? or theoretical yield... thanks for your help

 what i did first is 100mg x 1mol/236 = 0.42mol

then i did 6ml of ethanol x .789g/1ml(density)= 4.734g then x by 1mol/46.02g= 0.10mol

and for methylene chloride i did the same as ethanol and got 0.062mol... is methylene chloride the limiting reagent?

First you need a balanced reaction...
