material balance when two or more species contribute
« on: September 24, 2011, 05:23:33 PM »
Hey guys I was wondering what the material balance would be if 2 species in a system contribute the same ion.

ie. dissociation of caf2 and hf both give f-, so would the material balance be [caf2] + [hf]initial = [f-] + [hf-]?

[caf2] + [hf]initial = [f-] + [hf-]?

Close, but wrong. How many moles of F per mole of CaF2?

yea this is where I am stuck. CaF2 contributes 2 moles but hf only contributes some...

sorry again for double post...

So it would be 2[caf2] + [hf]initial = [hf] + [f-]?

the caf2's concentration releases 2 f- and the hf only releases one.

Yes.
