Cyanuric acid determination with melamine
« on: September 28, 2011, 09:03:23 AM »
Hello everyone. It's my first post in here. I hope you can help me with this...

Many tests for cyanuric determination in pool water use melamine in powder. The reaction between this two triazines forms a suspension and the turbidity is measured by spectrophotometry.

I'm trying to make my "home-made tests" so i bought a jar of melamine and I started making trials (as I don't find any procedure neither in the web or in my book ("Standard methods APPHA AWWA"))

I do not get the same results adding only melamine because the suspension has no stability.

So I'm trying to increase it, first thing I did is to increase ionic strenght adding NaCl. I got a better result but not enough (standard is 60, I get 42 ppm)

¿Can anyone help me? I know I have to add something to the powder to mimic the tests, but I don't know which substance.

¿Does anyone have a procedure for this method?

Sorry for my bad english.

Thanks for reading me.
