Major product of addition to alkyne?

Please tell me what is the major product when 2-pentyne react with HgSO4/ dilute H2SO4?

How can we predict the major product from unsymmetric alkyne, does they follow Markov orientation?

Look up "oxymercuration" in any organic chemistry textbook.

A google for oxymercuration of alkynes will also help you.

@DAN: I did read "oxymercuration" mechanism, but can u confirm what is the major product, if follow Markov, it will be CH3-CH2-C(=O)-CH2-CH3 but my teacher said CH3-C(=O)-CH2CH2CH3 ???? I don't know why?

I don't think either would be favored and you'd get a roughly 1:1 mixture of the two ketones.
