Why is less borohydride needed to complete the reaction if 1M NaOH/H
2
O is used as the solvent rather than MeOH?
Is it because NaOH is more basic and it dissociates easily in water? That's about all that I can think of..
Thanks in advance!

Think about the reactivity of borohydride. Why might it behave better under basic conditions rather than neutral or acidic conditions?
