So I'm using a program called ChemBioSketch and have to draw out various compounds and then calculate their heat of formation values and then compare them together to determine their stabilities. From my readings, the higher the heat of formation, the lower the stability.
For example:
When I drew out trans-2-pentene, I got a heat of formation value of -8.46776 Kcal/mole and for 3-methylhexane, I got a heat of formation value of -45.18479 Kcal/mole. Since the heat of formation value for 3-methylhexane is much lower then that for trans-2-pentene, that would make 3-methylhexane more stable. Am I right on my understanding of that?
