oxidation reduction titration

Hello everyone,
While performing oxidation reduction titration by taking reducing agent(FeSO4) in conical flask and oxidizing agent(KMnO4) in burette, H2SO4 is added in conical flask before the addition of KMnO4. What is the role of H2SO4?
