An amine is an organic compound derived from the inorganic ammonia. Ammonia is inorganic because it has no carbon. Amines are classified as primary, secondary & tertiary. They are also classified as alkylamines (aliphatic) and arylamines (aromatic). Amines are organic bases by excellence. My question: Do bacteria synthesize amines ? More specifically, do Gardnerella bacteria synthesize alkylamines ? I would like to know. Thanx.
