Soxhlet Extraction choice of solvent
« on: December 14, 2011, 10:10:35 PM »
Hello everyone,

I am trying to run a soxhlet extraction on a sample that has quaternary ammonium compounds with long carbon chains in it using isopropanol as a solvent. After extraction, the solids have more carbon content than before extraction. This makes me assume that the extraction is not working. Is there a better solvent that one of you can think of that may extract the quaternary ammonium compound better?

Thanks in advance!

(The CAS # is 68002-59-5 and the IUPAC name is Dihexadecyl(dimethyl)ammonium chloride )
