reactions, reactivity
« on: January 15, 2012, 05:35:32 AM »
Hi.
Coud somebody please tell me aswers on this questions, or whic type of reactions is it:

Draw products of acetone and:
a) EtOH/H+
b) NH2NH2

Draw products of acetaldehyde and:
a) MeOH(prebitek)/H+
b) NH2OH

Draw all possible products of aldol condesation propanal + acetaldehyde

Draw mechanism of elimination of tertiary butyl alcohol in presence of acid.

Draw products for monosubstitution:
a) thiophene + MeCl/AlCl3
c) 4-methyl pyridine + SO3/H2SO4

You must show an attempt at the question before we can help you, this is forum policy.

Do you have any ideas? Maybe look at the carbonyl chemistry chapter your organic chemistry textbook to get started.

Draw products of acetone and:
a) EtOH/H+     carony and hidroxyl groups are only functional grups,
(nucleophilic addition or sobstitution?)
b) NH2NH2 same

Draw products of acetaldehyde and:
a) MeO/H+ (nucleophilic substitutin --> methane-diol)
b) NH2OH (nucleophilic substitutin --> aminomethanol)

Draw all possible products of aldol condesation propanal + acetaldehyde no idea

Draw mechanism of elimination of tertiary butyl alcohol in presence of acid. the product is 2-metiplpropene?

Draw products for monosubstitution:
a) thiophene + MeCl/AlCl3 (electrofilis aroamtic substitution - on wich o,m,p?)
c) 4-methyl pyridine + SO3/H2SO4 (same)

Look up the following words/topics in the index of your textbook and read about them.

imine
acetal
Electrophilic aromatic substituion and "directing effects"
Elimination
aldol reaction

You must show a meaningful attempt at the question.

Ok, so what products are you suggesting?

Halfway there.

Look up the aldol reaction in your textbook and try again.

Yes, but what is the mechanism, you haven't answered the question.
