The question tells me to draw 3-ethyl-5,5,6,6-tetramethylhexane (which is incorrectly named) and then correctly name based on the IUPAC rules.

I know how to name it I just don't know how to draw it.

Start with hexane.....right?

Start with the parent, hexane as you've figured from the given name, then decide which end you will begin numbering from. In this case it won't make a difference, however, if it was was an -ol, -al, -ene, -yne (so forth) for example you'd have to consider which side to begin from. After you've numbered it begin adding your substituents.
I'm still learning - always check my work/answer.

Looks like a heptane to me. Start with the longest carbon chain.
Here is a pic.

Yeah the chain is heptane not hexane. OP you could have determined that by realizing that two methyl groups on the 6th carbon of hexane is actually increasing the chain by one. Thus it's actually heptane with 3 methyl groups and an ethyl group attached.
