Tugsten atomic structure
« on: February 03, 2012, 06:46:45 AM »
I am very bad at chemsitry but have been doing some research, I am actualy doing a mechatronics course and in my materials subject I have been given a task to describe and show examples of different atomic structures, I have found most of the ones I needed but I cant find anything for the tugsten atomic structure, I have tried other forums but no one could help me, I need an image of the atom itself, I have found some but just need to confirm and also I need the structure I am not very good at chemistry so I think it may look something like this http://www.chemexplore.net/Perovskite-AB.gif

What your linked picture shows is how atoms organise in a crystal (a Perovskite in this case). Is that what you want, or rather how electrons organize in the atom?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tungsten
tells "body-centered cubic" which looks like
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body-centered_cubic
which may hold for pure Tungsten but not necessarily for its alloys nor at all temperatures.

Always a good entry point is
http://www.webelements.com/
http://www.webelements.com/tungsten/
http://www.webelements.com/tungsten/crystal_structure.html the crystal
http://www.webelements.com/tungsten/atoms.html the electron configuration
is just [Xe].4f14.5d4.6s2 or 2.8.18.32.12.2  ;D couldn't you choose Helium instead?
