I hear u P. I feel u on that, trust me. Thing is, I don't know what to think. I don't even get the sense of "monomeric anhydride". I have doubts what its formula looks like.
Thats why I axed straight up.

I think fumarc anhydride do not exist because the trans position COOH groups at fumaric acid. Anyway its known many mixed anhydrides of fumaric acid with many other organic acids for example fumaric anhydride-co-sebacic anhydride.
Of course if you try to obtain monomeric fumaric anhydride from standard procedure starting from dichloracyl fumarate and its dinatrium salt you will obtain polyfumaric anhydride i think...
