This may not be directly Chemical Engineering related but it is in a ChemEng course.
I am reading about transfer functions in a Process Control course and "nominal value" keeps showing up. Usually it is saying something like this: the bar over the symbol denotes a nominal steady state value.
Example: Steady state version of a CSTR balance:
0=w1*x1_bar + w2*x2 - w*x_bar
(x1 varies as x2 is constant)
x's are the fractions and w's are the flow rates. The flow rates are constant.
