what size condensor for what size flask

brand new to the site i have a few basic question.what size of condensor is used for what size flask? just wondering if theres a basic rule of thumb for this question. thank you .

If you mean ground glassware, there is a little number next to the joint that lets you know which size it is to match which opening.  Its a bit more clear, in real life, than it appears to in this Wikipedia article:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_glass_joint#Conically_tapered_joints

thank you.i know what you meen by the 20/40 etc and the adapters,but what i ment was if your reaction flask is 6000ml do you use a certain size condensor for that particular size? or are all condensors universal.

That depends more on the material and what you are trying to do with it. If you are refluxing solvents, in general, the lower the boiling point, the more efficient or larger your condenser needs to be to keep all of the solvent in the pot instead of letting it escape through the condenser. If you are doing a distillation, the closer together the boiling points of the compounds that you are trying to separate, the larger or more efficient your condenser needs to be to get the separation.
