Downloadable files for jmol?
« on: March 17, 2012, 07:20:53 PM »
Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know of a portal where you can download jmol files - namely .mol?

I've found several .mol scattered all over the internet by doing a google search limited to .mol - but it there a central database that anyone knows of?

Im still very new to jmol and will eventually create them from scratch.

thanks

Hi,

.mol files are actually just simple chemical structure files that can be created in any chemical drawing package eg. ChemDraw, ChemSketch, and AccelrysDraw (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical_table_file). One possible source for mol files is ChemSpider (amongst other places) - below the structure displayed in each record is a Save button which lets you save the structure as a mol file. In most cases you'll find that the molfiles are 2D Structures rather than 3D.
