2nd Law of thermodynamics question pretty Urgent
« on: March 21, 2012, 09:27:41 PM »
I have a test tomorow and this question is gonna be on there:

"A refrigerator transfers heat q from a cold system at a constant temperature Tsys, to hot surroundings at a constant temperature Tsurr which is assumed to be reversible. What is the minimum  total amount of heat that surroundings should obtain in such a process to satisfy the 2nd law of thermodynamics"

The answer I got was -q/Tsys + Q/Tsurr > 0
which means Q= q (Tsur/Tsys)

I was wondering if this is right if not can you guys help me out? Some of my classmates got q + Q=  q ( 1+ TSur (1/Tsur-1/Tsur))

If you get similiar to the second equation please let me know because this is urgent my test is tomorow
