Hello Organic Chemists,
I wanted to ask your advice as to what would be the most efficient process to convert hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 2,5-dimethylfuran (DMF).
Thanks!!

I do have an idea, but I don't know if that's very efficient.
1. Convert to corresponding amides
2. Reduce to amine
3. Diazotization
4. Reduction

Simple hydrogenation with palladium on carbon should probably do it in one step.

Many thanks to you both for offering your thoughts on this. Yeah, after some research I think the hydrogenation with palladium might be the best route to take.
cheers!
