Limiting reagent
« on: March 29, 2012, 03:34:36 AM »
The reaction of powdered aluminium and iron(III) oxide:
2Al + Fe2O3 → Al2O3 + 2Fe

produces so much heat that the iron produced is molten. Railroads use this reaction to produce molten steel to weld rails together when laying tracks.

What weight of iron is produced when 1500 g of Al are mixed with 3000 g of Fe2O3?

1. which is the limiting reagent?

you need to convert both reactants to moles, and then compare the resulting mole ratio to the mole ratio in the balanced eq'n.
