Fellowships and Grad Course Grades
« on: April 27, 2012, 12:29:39 PM »
Hi all,

I was on a good streak with grad courses (all A's) but recently got a B+, which is actually below average since grad courses are curved around a B+/A- cusp.

I was told by a friend who is also in the program that this makes obtaining pre-doctoral fellowships for major funding sources like NIH and NSF impossible. How valid is this and is there still a way to get full funding with a B+ on my transcript?

It has less to do with your grades and more to do with who your mentor is.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex

I understand that grades don't matter after grad school ( maintain a B and it's all good). But there has to to be an advantage to having a good track record, especially when fellowships are so hard to come by with so many applicants. Is it naive to assume that there is an initial weeding process that may include grades?
