pH
« on: July 30, 2012, 10:55:38 AM »
Hello All,

I have a question regarding the ph of compounds. I have three different compunds like:
0.1M(mol/L)  Na2CO3 => pH 11 (nearly)
0.1M(mol/L) CaCO3 => pH 6.9
0.1M(mol/L) Nh4HCO3 => pH 7.5

On what factors does the pH depends? As all three contains Carbonate. Which compound is more stable?

Regards!
Atiq

Hint - hydrolysis of salts

Moreover - you can never get 0.1 M CaCO3; solubility of calcium carbonate is about 2000 times lower.
