Based on the information that 0.689 g Cr(s) reacts completely with 0.636 g O
2(g) to form a single compound, is CrO
3 the product?
I just converted each mass into moles and got the mole ratio to get:
2Cr(s) + 3O
2(g)
2CrO
3(s)
I know it's a simple question but I was a little stumped on this one because previously I had only heard of Cr having a charge of 2+ or 3+. In this case it has a 6+ charge, so really my question is this:
Can chromium have a 6+ charge?
Thanks,
Mike
