Hey I just wanted some help with these questions for homework.
I think i know the answers but not 100% sure, i've put what i think, if you could help me that would be fantastic!
Question 1
Hydrochloric acid is a typical acid with the formula HCI. Sodium hydroxide is a typical alkali with the formula NaOH.
a)What ions are present in aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid?
Is it H^+ CI^- (hydrogen and chlorine)
b)What ions are present in an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide?
Is it NaOH - sodium, oxygen, hydrogen
c)When hydrochloric acid solution and sodium hydroxide solution react together, water and a solution of a salt are produced.
i)What type of reaction occurs?
Is it neutralisation?
ii)Name the salt produced?
Sodium Chloride (NaCI)
iii)Deduce the ionic equation for the reaction?
NaHo+HCI = NaCI+H20
Question 2
X and Y are white powders. X is insoluble in water, but Y is soluble and its solution has a PH of 3. When X is added to a solution of Y, bubbles form and a gas is produced.
a)One of the white powders is an acid. Is it X or Y? How do you know?
Is the answer:
X
As it was insoluble and when it was added to y the solution started to bubble.
b) The other white powder is calcium carbonate. What is the gas produced in the reaction?
I think Carbon Dioxide
Thanks!
