Net Ionic Equations Question
« on: August 24, 2012, 12:02:02 AM »
I'm in AP Chemistry this year, and we just started covering net ionic equations. I understand how to do them usually.

However, i'm confused on how to tell when there is no reaction.

ex.  If you react NaOH (aq) and KI (aq) together...you make NaI (aq) and KOH (aq)

but there's no precipitate or gas...so when you change it to the ionic equation...and then to the net ionic...wouldn't they all cancel each other out?

is that what it means by no reaction?

Thank you!

you are right. All ions are spectator ions and no new product is formed.
