Synthesis of Ester
« on: September 05, 2012, 08:06:12 PM »
I am doing my lab observation write up.  I remember in this lab the mixture had bubbles formed like soda pop bubbles.  Did the bubbles form when I mixed
Isoamyl alcohol clear solution
Acetic acid clear solution
When the two solutions were mixed together bubbles formed?

Or bubbles formed only after I added a small amount of sulphuric acid to the mixture of (carboxylic acid and alcohol)?  Thank you.

you were there, you tell us.  remember to write down observations in your notebook as they happen or quickly after before you forget what happened and when.

I know the bubbles from soda pop is carbon dioxide.  If my memory is correct the bubble formation I saw in my organic chem lab is when isoamyl alcohol was mixed with acetic acid (carboxylic acid)?  Thank you.
