Iron oxide "metallisation" process

The goal is to make the iron plate, sprayed with iron oxide metalized.
To do this i was charging the copper oxide - iron oxide cell with 1.5 V battery.
I can see that iron plates releases hydrogen but i dont know if this is the right process of making this plate more "metalized"...
