Preventing Amide Hydrolysis by strong base
« on: October 13, 2012, 11:09:52 AM »
Hi

What are the techniques of preventing amide hydrolysis by a base like KOH and NaOH?
Should i make sure the solution is not too alkaline?(What Molar solution of base?)
How low should the temperature be?

Regards
Sam

Keep the base solution dilute, < 1.0M and do not heat it. A reaction temperature of 0-10°C should not cause amide hydrolysis.
What are the functional groups that you are trying to react?
Development Chemists do it on Scale, Research Chemists just do it!
